Vintage Panama Kuna Mola Folk Art from San Blas Island. Reverse appliqué design featuring birds. Framed, measuring 21"x17.5".
History: Molas originated with the Indigenous Kuna women painting their bodies with geometric designs.
Condition: Pre-Owned Good condition. Expected fray threads. Frame has minor nicks. See all pictures. Vintage from 1980's or prior. Beautiful colorful work. Often inspired by flowers, birds and marine/terrestrial animals. Designed in geometrical shapes and forms and sewn with a complex layering of panels in a reverse appliqué.
