Authentic African Hand Thorn Carved Nigerian Yoruba Man Drummer Figure.
Hand-carved thorn figure depicting a Nigerian man drumming. Very unique carving as no carving is exactly the same. This carving is from the 1950s.
Bought at an estate sale in New York; the grandson says it belonged to his Grandma, and she purchased it in the late 50's. This thorn carving shows a Yoruba Man drumming in the traditional way. Thorn carvings are unique to Nigeria. As in this example, they generally depict scenes and activities common to village life.
