Ambrotype in thermoplastic case from the 1850s. Case is approximately 4 inches tall and 3.5 inches wide, with carving on the front and back. Features a burgundy velvet insert and a portrait of a woman.
Lower left corner says "Ambrotype by Rehn" and "260 Chestnut St." Lower right corner says "Patented July 4 & 11 1854." Weighs 188 grams. A rare piece of photographic history.
